Prime Video's Kids in the Hall series reunites one of sketch comedy's most eccentric troupes, but the Kids haven't been idle since the original CBC show ended. The Kids in the Hall sketch troupe formed in Toronto in 1984 and performed on-stage before making the jump to TV with their self-titled special. The Kids in the Hall, which aired on CBC and HBO, developed a reputation for its eccentric humor and gained critical praise and a cult following that has only grown in the decades since due to syndication. While it didn't become a star-making machine like Saturday Night Live, another sketch comedy show produced by Lorne Michaels, the series' success allowed its members to have long careers in the comedy world regardless.

The new Prime Video series is the first official revival of the original Kids in the Hall show, but it's not the first time the troupe has reunited. The five members teamed up for Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy, a 1996 movie, and also for touring stage shows from 2000 to 2008. The group returned to television in 2010 for The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town, a CBC miniseries, and as individual performers, the five members have also been involved in many movies and television shows.
