The second Sonic the Hedgehog movie isn’t out until April 8, but we already got confirmation that more is on the way. A reported by Deadline, Sega and Paramount are continuing the collaboration with both Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie and a spin-off series starring Knuckles. And yes, Idris Elba, who is voicing the gem-loving echidna in the second film, is on board for the show.
From the sound of things, we’re going to see the Knuckles in action before the third movie. The series is set to premiere on Paramount+ in 2023. Details are sparse, but it could be a prequel revealing Knuckles’ background and how he stumbled upon the conniving Dr. Robotnik. Knuckles’ story has always been an oddly bitter one considering the family-friendly nature of the franchise. But because of this, it’s ripe for elaboration. The show may also fill the gaps between the second and third movies. We don’t know yet, but at least Sega seems pleased.
