Paramount announces a new Sonic the Hedgehog television series based on the character Knuckles, who will be voiced by Idris Elba. Sonic the Hedgehog was a big hit for Paramount Pictures when it was released on February 14, 2020, as the film grossed $319.7 million worldwide and was one of the last major hits at the box office before theaters shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, is currently set to be released in theaters on April 8, 2022.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to introduce a fan-favorite character, Knuckles the Echidna, to the franchise with Idris Elba voicing the character. Knuckles was introduced in the video game Sonic the Hedgehog 3 back in 1994, where he originally appeared as a foe. However, over the course of the video games, Knuckles has become one of Sonic's greatest allies. Knuckles has appeared in a number of Sonic projects over the years, including animated television series and other video games, but often as a supporting player. Now, it appears to be Knuckles' time to shine.
