Discovery's $43 million deal with WarnerMedia went through only a few days ago but the new owners already have plans for their new acquisition – primarily, leveraging DC's wealth of content in the way that Disney managed to do with Marvel, and creating a worthy content vertical. According to a report by Variety, there are a lot of new ideas the new bosses want to implement – including pushing characters like Joker and Harley Quinn.
According to the report, Discovery is currently under the impression that DC's iconic characters are not being leveraged in the best way possible. In fact, the exact words used in the report said that the company believes "several top-shelf characters such as Superman have been left to languish and need to be revitalized." The last time we saw DC's Superman was in Zack Snyder's Justice League last year, but officially under WB, it was in the original Justice League back in 2017.

"They also believe that projects like Todd Phillips’ “Joker” are a shining example of how second-billed characters from the DC library can and should be exploited (Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is another example)," says the report.
That's unsurprising, as Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime has been placed on the same mantle as that of Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson. Apart from that, the movie received commercial and critical acclaim unlike any of the DCEU movies. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and her Suicide Squad are perhaps the best performing crew in the DCEU, and it would be a shame if more of their movies weren't in the works.
