A new game set in the most depressing version of space save for the heat death of the universe just crashed down into Google Play. Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge gives you the chance to collect the iconic warriors and monsters of Games Workshop’s world, perhaps without ending up with several hundred unpainted models sitting in one of your cupboards that you’re planning to get around to one day.
I’m sure I must be calling out at least a few readers accurately right now.
It’s back to the grim future of the 40K universe, but this time you’re trading figures for cards. All your favorite factions are there, and your least favorite too, we’d wager. Space Marines, Tyranids, Necron, Eldar, Orks, and all flavours of chaos abominations are at your disposal in a game of wit and strategy.
Warhammer 40,000 is a spacefaring, dystopian, dark fantasy nightmare set in the distant future. The empire of humanity is beset by the constant threats of the Chaos Gods, beings of incomparable psychic energy whose influences spread outside of the dark realms the inhabit.
That’s not to say that humanity is coming out of this completely in the clear. The human race persists and a rabid theocracy with a hatred of anything other than humans, or variants of.
Then there’s Orks, violent psychic fungus people who can make machines work by the power of sheer belief.
There’s the Tyranids, a horrible zerg rush hivemind species out to overrun the galaxy.
There’s the necrons, a hostile race of skeleton-like robot constructs who just woke up and woke up pretty cranky.
And of course, you’ve got the Eldar who are… space elves. Elves in space. There’s Dark Eldar too but I feel like talking about what they do might be bad for anyone reading this on their lunch break.
