Getting a PlayStation 5 console for a reasonable price is just as difficult in 2022 as it was in 2020, with supply shortages, the ongoing pandemic, and a multitude of other real-world issues making PS5 supply scarce. It's still next to impossible for one to walk into a store and walk out with a PS5 console in tow, and so the only way that most are able to buy the system is by taking advantage of online restocks.

The two consoles are identical in terms of performance and power, with the only difference being that the $499.99 PlayStation 5 has a disc drive and can therefore play physical PS5 and PS4 games, whereas the PS5 Digital Edition console is, as its name implies, restricted to digital content only.
There are various other benefits to signing up for Walmart+ besides just getting a PS5 console, and in theory, the paywall should make it so scalpers aren't as much of a factor. However, there have been issues with Walmart+ PS5 restocks in the past, and it seems many customers are still finding it
