Vikings is one of the most popular and successful historical dramas in recent years, and while it was praised by critics and viewers, there are some details and elements that were heavily criticized, such as most characters not aging despite time jumps and more that should have made them look a lot older than they did. Created by Michael Hirst (The Tudors), Vikings premiered on History Channel in 2013, and even though it was originally intended to be a miniseries, the stories of Ragnar, Lagertha, Rollo, and more won the audience over and allowed it to live on for a total of six seasons, coming to an end in 2020.
Vikings initially followed legendary Norse warrior Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and his travels and raids alongside his Viking brothers, from the beginning of the Viking Age (marked by the Lindisfarne raid, shown in season 1) onward. As the series progressed, Vikings shifted its focus to Ragnar’s sons and their own travels, with them taking the lead of the series after Ragnar’s death in season 4 and until the final episode. Vikings covered the early years of the Viking Age, and while the writers aimed to be as historically accurate as possible, Vikings ended up with various historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies, making way for a number of questions that haven’t been answered.
