While Vegeta is one of the most arrogant and sure of himself fighters in Dragon Ball Z, there is seemingly one moment in his past that he is secretly ashamed of, though incidentally, it is easily the most epic moment of his entire DBZ career.
In Dragon Ball Z Chapter 273 titled “Farewell, Proud Warrior” by Akira Toriyama, Vegeta has become a malicious version of himself known as Majin Vegeta. However, in this particular chapter, Vegeta hopes to redeem himself and atone for the evils of his more recent past. To do so, Vegeta decides to face off against the villainous Buu, an enemy no one had even come close to defeating before. In an effort to unleash every ounce of his power and obliterate Buu in an instant, Vegeta self-detonates and creates an explosion akin to a nuclear bomb right in front of Buu, killing himself in the process. Unfortunately, his sacrifice meant very little as he was unsuccessful in killing Buu despite the fact that he gave his life to do so.

In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 40 by Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou, Vegeta, Android 17, and the rest of the Z Fighters are fighting in a multiversal battle royale that has been dubbed the Tournament of Power. During this tournament, Android 17 goes up against an opponent from another universe named Jiren after the fighter defeated both Goku and Vegeta. Knowing that he is no match for this absolute power house, 17 decides the best thing to do is to self-detonate and hope that the blast he creates would be enough to at least knock Jiren out of the ring and eliminate him.
