Unannounced Atlus Game's Codename Leaks Online

One of the unannounced games currently in development at Atlus has the codename XRD792, a well-known leaker has said. Although the purported designation is fairly nondescript, it matches with Atlus's established code-naming practices, consequently offering one concrete clue about the mysterious project.

The Sega subsidiary is presently rumored to be working on over half a dozen unannounced games. Its current list of projects is said to include the remakes of Persona 2 and Persona 4, according to an early February report from Midori, an established insider with an impressive track record of Atlus- and Sega-related leaks.

Midori is also the one responsible for this newly emerged codename scoop, having taken to Twitter on February 17 to claim that one of Atlus's upcoming projects is internally designated as XRD792. The alleged alias dovetails with the Japanese studio's track record of using game codenames starting with «XRD» followed by three digits. The practice is at least 19 years old, with the oldest known project to use such a designation being the Wii exclusive Trauma Center: Second Opinion, which started development in 2005 as XRD625, as previously uncovered by dataminer Regularpan.

Every other 21st-century game from Atlus followed a similar codename scheme, with the company reusing the format at least 24 other times since the early aughts. Since the practice historically encompassed titles spanning a variety of genres and series, the XRD792 designation does not offer any clues about which of the currently rumored Atlus games it could belong to.

However, historical trends suggest that the last three digits in this format are used as ordinal numbers, denoting the chronological order of a given project. While not every Atlus game used this designation scheme, the recently released Persona 3 Reload did, having been internally designated as XRD777.
