Twitter isn't ready to launch an edit button just yet, but diving into Twitter's code has revealed how it will work and what it will look like.
Well-known Twitter code-diver Jane Manchun Wong has delved into the code once again and discovered a working version of the tweet editing process. In the tweet below, you can watch a short clip where she goes through the whole process of editing a tweet:
As Wong states, it's currently very inefficient because Twitter re-uploads any media attached to the tweet. That will surely be resolved before the edit button launches.
Wong also revealed how Twitter intends to inform us a tweet has been edited. The original unedited tweet will have a pen icon and the text "There's a new version of this Tweet" added to it. The edited tweet will have a smaller version of the same pen icon along with the word "Edited" next to it positioned to the right of the time and date information.
Twitter confirmed last month that it had been working on an edit button since last year and we should expect it to arrive as a test feature later this year. Twitter Blue users will be the first to gain access to it, although exactly when and how it will be introduced may change now that Twitter has a new owner.
