Sony’s show has now found its home. Peacock has picked up the video game adaptation, but it is still currently unknown when it’ll release on the streaming service.
Peacock also announced more of the talent behind it and more of its general premise. Anthony Mackie’s amnesia-stricken character, John Doe, is a “smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives.” He then gets an opportunity to find a community as he tries to deliver a package across the wasteland. The official description even teases the series’ mascot, Sweet Tooth, which seemed inevitable anyway.
It’s not yet clear who will be joining Mackie on the screen, but there will be bunch of well-known names behind the camera. Will Arnett and Marc Forman from Electric Avenue are executive producing. Michael Jonathan Smith, known for, is the showrunner, writer, and executive producer. This may seem unique for a post-apocalyptic show, but it is being billed as a half-hour action comedy. Mackie is also executive producing in addition to being the show’s lead. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick from and are still executive producers, too. President of Scripted Content and NBCUniversal Television and Streaming Lisa Katz also gave a statement on the announcement.
“ has been a global phenomenon for more than 25 years but it was the creative vision for this live-action adaptation, led by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, that blew us away. Also Anthony Mackie starring made it undeniable!” said Katz. “This adrenalin-infused [sic] comedy series is in expert hands with our partners at Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television, and will be the perfect addition to Peacock as we continue to look for uniquely entertaining programs.”
