The director of the Uncharted movie has already been in talks with Sony to create a TV show or movie based on Jak and Daxter.
When Tom Holland, current Spider-Man and star of the upcoming Uncharted movie, said he’d like to be in a Jak And Daxter movie everyone assumed he was just joking around, especially when he said he wanted to be ‘really weird and dark’.
But it turns out that Uncharted movie director Ruben Fleischer is already in talks with Sony about doing just that, except maybe not the weird and dark part.
‘I’m actually working on Jak and Daxter, a version of that, for PlayStation, which I think would be really cool to bring to life,’ Fleischer told Digital Trends.
You would assume that Holland already knew about this when he made his original comments, but since he made no mention of Fleischer or talking to Sony it seems he might not and that the two just happened to have the same idea.
Either or that or the two are just trolling fans while bored doing press interviews, which does happen.
It certainly seems a peculiar idea, as there hasn’t been a new Jak And Daxter game in 13 years and even by that point the franchise had largely fallen out of favour.
The original was a Banjo-Kazooie style 3D platformer but the next two mainline entries were open world adventures inspired more by Grand Theft Auto, and turned main hero Jak into a sweary xtreme protagonist.
Although developer Naughty Dog have often referenced earlier creation Crash Bandicoot in their recent work, they’ve rarely ever alluded to Jak And Daxter and it seems very unlikely that they’d work on a new game.
If a TV or film project did get the greenlight though a new one is almost inevitable, whether Tom Holland does the voiceover or not.
