Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks has starred in some iconic and beloved films over the years, but the man himself doesn't love everything he's made. In an interview with The New Yorker, Hanks said he's just like everyone else in that he has seen movies that he hates, and he's starred in some, too.
«OK, let's admit this: We all have seen movies that we hate. I have been in some movies that I hate,» Hanks said. «You have seen some of my movies and you hate them.»
Hanks did not name any specific projects, so we can only guess which movies of his that he doesn't like all that much.
Hanks went on to say that, as part of the filmmaking process, sometimes an actor might think differently about a film once it's actually made. «It either works and is the movie you wanted to make, or it does not work and it’s not the movie you wanted to make,» he said.
Hanks said he also considers the critical reaction to a movie when he weighs up whether or not it was actually good. He also thinks about the commercial performance of a movie. «If it does not make money, your career will be toast sooner than you want it to be. That's just the fact. That's the business,» he said.
The Cast Away actor went on to say that time also plays a role in how films are remembered. He pointed out that 1946's It's A Wonderful Life is a fondly remembered movie, but at the time, it was not a commercial hit and only gained major popularity when it entered the public domain and ran on TV during the holiday season.
