Although Titanic tells a full story, it has made way for a variety of theories, among those one that suggests Jack Dawson went on to become The Great Gatsby’s protagonist, Jay Gatsby – but is that possible? James Cameron’s name is often associated with the sci-fi genre thanks to movies like The Terminator, Aliens, and Avatar, but one of his biggest and most successful projects is from a very different genre: Titanic, a disaster drama movie that even though is based on a real-life tragedy, tells a fictional love story.
Based on the accounts of the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912, Titanic tells the story of Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), two passengers from opposite social classes who fall in love aboard the ship during its ill-fated maiden voyage. Over the course of just four days, Rose and Jack met, got to know each other quite well, fell in love, and defended their relationship from anyone who tried to keep them apart, but they weren’t meant to be together – Rose became one of the survivors of the sinking after being rescued from the ocean, but it was too late for Jack, who froze to death.

Rose eventually moved on and lived the life she always wanted, but she never forgot about Jack and their short-lived but intense romance. Of course, Jack’s fate in Titanic is very clear, but as he was a third-class passenger, there were no records of him, and this detail has made way for different theories on who Jack truly was and what could have really happened to him.
