Tile and Dell have teamed up to make a stylus that's practically impossible to lose.
The result is the Dell Premier Rechargeable Active Pen. It features Tile's so-called "finding technology" that allows people to use the company's mobile apps to "ring" their misplaced stylus, view its last-known location, or "enlist the secure help of Tile's global Network" in their search.
"Tile brings people peace of mind by eliminating the stress of losing or misplacing the things you need to get through your day," Tile CEO CJ Prober said in a statement, "so embedding our technology seamlessly into the tools that are essential for productivity is a clear value add."
There is something to be said for being able to locate easy-to-misplace items like styluses without having to attach dedicated tracking devices to them. (Especially since it's hard to imagine someone buying a $110 stylus and then spending at least $25 more on a Tile product.)
Tile isn't stopping with the Dell Premier Rechargeable Active Pen. The company says in its announcement that it's "also significantly growing its presence in the PC category with the addition of several Intel-powered laptops" manufactured by Lenovo, MSI, and Fujitsu.
This expansion to additional laptops—Tile and HP built the company's "finding technology" into some devices starting in December 2020—was purportedly enabled by a partnership with Intel. More laptops with support for Tile's platform are expected to be released in the future.
Tile says that its "finding technology is embedded in over 55 different third-party devices across audio, wearables, travel, smart home, pet, and PC categories." More information is available via the company's website.
