Tiger King's Joe Exotic is resentenced to 21 years in prison after attempts to reduce his sentence fall through. Rising to prominence with Netflix's smash hit Tiger King documentary, the former zookeeper found himself behind bars following allegations that Exotic employed killers-for-hire to murder his adversary Carol Baskin. Thanks to the success of the crime documentary, Netflix decided to double down on Tiger King shows, releasing a season 2 and a limited series in 2021, the latter focusing on major Tiger King player Doc Antle.
And now, in a new twist in the neverending saga, Exotic's latest attempt to heavily reduce his prison term has fallen through. Shared by Yahoo, Exotic's lawyers argued that his sentence should be reduced, following a judicial error that saw Exotic tried for two murder-for-hire counts. Despite the court agreeing the charges should have been grouped, the judge erred against leniency for Exotic. His sentence was reduced only by a year, with Exotic now set to serve 21 years in prison.

Netflix wasn't the only party to see a bright future in the Tiger King, with at one point multiple projects based on the story in the works on several different platforms. While the most notable of these, a series starring Nicolas Cage as the enigmatic Exotic, is now dead, a recent trailer for Peacock's retelling of Exotic vs Baskin confirms that at least one adaption is still moving ahead. Although interest in the story has somewhat waned, knowing Exotic's track record, this won't be the last time the self-proclaimed Tiger King will make headline news.
