The Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA), which hosts the Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade shows every year, has confirmed that it will ban some Russian companies from participating in the upcoming event in Barcelona next week. The decision comes days after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in an attack that has been described as the most blatant act of unprovoked aggression in Europe since the second world war.
MWC is an annual trade show hosted by the GSMA and held every year in Barcelona, Spain. It is dedicated primarily to the mobile telecommunication industry, with participation from telecom equipment makers, smartphone vendors, cellular service providers and more. MWC 2022 is slated to kick off on Monday, and like every year, it's expected to be a showcase for many companies worldwide to announce their latest mobile products and services.

However, larger companies, such as the Russian telecom giant VimpelCom, will still be able to buy floor space in an individual capacity to demo their products and services unless there are direct sanctions on them from the international community.
