Parkour stunts caught on camera are endlessly fascinating, but perhaps even more incredible is how such fast-paced action be captured smoothly with technology and teamwork. A recently released behind-the-scenes look reveals some of these secrets. With a combination of high-powered equipment, an experienced crew and a talented parkour athlete, everything comes together to look effortless.
Parkour was established in its present form in France during the late 1980s and quickly caught the public's attention. The name itself was derived from the French phrase 'parcours du combattant' or obstacle course. A parkour practitioner is called a'traceur' (tracer). Similar acrobatics have been practiced around the world since humans first ran and jumped, but the discipline of parkour is more well-defined, sometimes involving teams and often requiring planning and choreography for difficult and potentially dangerous routines.

A recent YouTube video from DJI reveals the amazing behind-the-scenes action that takes place while a fluid and athletic traceur shows off stunning parkour moves. A DJI Ronin 4D camera perfectly smoothed out any jostles which kept a sharp focus on each move as the route led up walls and across rooftops at a torturous pace. The camera crew handled running, hand-offs between the crew, and even an incredible scene where the camera operator rolled downstairs backward on rollerblades. The parkour athlete is incredibly talented but top-notch equipment and an experienced and agile team of camera operators are needed to get such great quality video with what appears to be an effortless, gliding motion.
