Christmas rarely goes to plan in The Simpsons, but one seasonal episode was abandoned for a sweet reason. Matt Groening’s animated sitcom debuted with a Christmas episode, «Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire», airing in December 1989. The Simpsons is currently in its 33rd season, and has delivered several festive episodes over the years, but canceled one idea that would have emphasized Homer’s inner child.
The Simpsons follows the chaotic family’s misadventures in the town of Springfield.
