Ryan Reynoldshad an unusual opening night present for his perennial frenemy Hugh Jackman, proving that the pair’s gentle ribbing has made it to the Great White Way. Reynolds and Jackman’s faux rivalry dates back to 2009 when the actors co-starred as Deadpool and Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Though the film proved to be a forgettable X-Meninstallment, it spawned a beautiful quasi-friendship whose pranks have infiltrated press interviews, social media, and even the Deadpool franchise.
Through Reynolds and Jackman’s well-intentioned razzing, the pair have remained cognizant of one crucial fact: pranks make good press. Indeed, the actors tend to align their teasing and trolling with upcoming projects. Under the guise of fake disdain, Reynolds has promoted Jackman’s films Logan and The Front Runner, and Jackman returned the favor for Deadpool. Jackman’s latest project is leading The Music Man on Broadway, marking his first return to musicals since The Greatest Showman in 2017.
