Our IGN First "cover story" for this month is Star Trek: Resurgence, the upcoming post-TNG adventure from longtime Telltale developer (and longtime LucasArts adventure game maker too!) Kevin Bruner and his new team at Dramatic Labs, which is comprised of many former Telltale developers.
Star Trek: Resurgence is a narrative adventure game in which you'll be able to freely explore sections of both your ship and, yes, strange new worlds, making dialogue choices along the way as one of two playable characters whose perspectives alternate as the game – which isn't episodic, by the way – progresses.
The first-ever uncut chunk of gameplay, which you can see in the video at the top of this page (you can also see the reveal trailer from The Game Awards 2021 just above this sentence in case you missed that), shows Ambassador Spock – whose voice actors sounds uncannily like Leonard Nimoy – giving your character a debriefing ahead of a key mission. Note that the footage you're seeing is still early; Dramatic Labs was kind enough to give us a first look at what to expect.
Star Trek: Resurgence is due out later this year for PC (via the Epic Games Store), PlayStation, and Xbox.
Ryan McCaffrey is IGN's executive editor of previews and host of both IGN's weekly Xbox show, Podcast Unlocked, as well as our monthly(-ish) interview show, IGN Unfiltered. He's a North Jersey guy, so it's "Taylor ham," not "pork roll." Debate it with him on Twitter at @DMC_Ryan.
