Smelting comes into play later in The Serpent Rogue than its crafting counterparts brewing and cooking, but with the correct materials it can create some of the most potent effects in the game. Not only can you create weapons with which to arm yourself and your followers, but you can also modify existing gear to dramatically upgrade or alter their effects.

Smelting combines systems from both brewing and cooking, so by the time you're ready to spend a lot of time in the forge you should already have a handle on how it works. With this guide, you can create and customize to your heart's content.
Smelting is divided into two sub-crafts, forging and enhancement. Both can only be done from the Smeltery in the southwest corner of the Camp, so be sure to make everything you need before leaving home.
Like cooking, forging requires ingredients as well as fuel for the fire. In this case, the fuel is charcoal. Charcoal can be found while adventuring, but the vast majority of your supply will be created as a byproduct of cooking. Charcoal is used up completely when utilized for forging, and does not leave a byproduct of its own.
As long as you have fuel, forging is as simple as choosing between two and four materials and combining them. Some recipes require multiple copies of the same material.
If you use a combination that will not yield a result, the materials are lost along with the charcoal. It's best to use known recipes, but you can also discover recipes through trial and error. We've included every recipe we've discovered, and will add more if further recipes come to light.
