The Sandman star Mason Alexander Park discusses how closely the show will hew to the original comics. The Sandman series is a live-action adaptation of the legendary story by Neil Gaiman, published by DC Comics from 1989 through 1996. The comic follows a group of immortal siblings known as the Endless who embody metaphysical concepts: Dream, Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Destruction, and Delirium. The lead character, Dream, also known as Morpheus, was captured during World War I and escapes in the modern-day before attempting to restore his kingdom of the Dreaming. Netflix's The Sandman adaptation, which stars Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Baskar, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, premieres on August 5, 2022.
Another member of the massive cast is Park, who will be portraying Desire. The character is an androgynous embodiment of lust who manifests on various points across the gender spectrum. Desire, who is the twin sibling of Despair, is a primary rival of Dream, and their animosity blooms after Desire causes Dream to fall in love with a woman who eventually abandons him.

Screen Rant had the opportunity to sit down for an exclusive interview with Park to discuss their character and The Sandman at large. Park detailed a bit about Desire's relationship to Dream in the show, explaining that The Sandman creator Gaiman once described Dream as "Desire's stuffy older brother."
