The ‘reimagining’ of popular ’90s platform game Zool is coming to PlayStation, after spending two years on PC.
Zool Redimensioned was released on Steam in August 2021, having been developed by the Sumo Digital Academy.
Now publisher Secret Mode has announced that the game will be coming to PS4 on May 16, with some new party modes added.
The original Zool was released by Gremlin Graphics in 1992 for the Amiga home computer, and was later ported to the SNES, Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear, Game Boy, PC, Atari ST, Amiga CD32 and Acorn Archimedes.
Zool Redimensioned gives the game a modern refresh, most notably by taking advantage of higher screen resolutions by zooming the action out, making it easier for players to see where they’re going.
The PS4 version will include new local multiplayer modes. “Don your favourite Zool mask and compete with up to 3 friends by grabbing the most clutter in Zool’s Gold, holding onto Krool’s crown in Rool of Zool, and booting balls into the back of the Nth dimension in Ball Brawl”, the game’s description reads.
The PC version was created by apprentices at the Sumo Digital Academy, a talent development programme designed to help graduates make their first career move into the video game development industry.
Those apprentices have now moved on to other roles, meaning the PS4 port has been handled by a new team of apprentices.
