Jon Stewart's Apple TV+ talk show The Problem with Jon Stewart is reportedly struggling in the ratings. Stewart was a stalwart of cable comedy as host of The Daily Show, a position he held for 16 years before passing on the baton to Trevor Noah in 2015. Stewart then spent a few years workshopping a new show with HBO that was eventually canceled in 2017, before signing a multi-year deal with Apple. The Problem with Jon Stewart then premiered in September 2021 on Apple TV+ and was released alongside a companion podcast. With episodes lasting an hour, the showtackles a different topic each week and features guest appearances from experts on the chosen topic.
It seems, however, that the more focused approach in this new show is not landing Stewart the golden ratings he received at The Daily Show. According to The Wrap, The Problem with Jon Stewart suffered a massive drop-off in viewership during season 1. Despite premiering as the number 1 unscripted program on Apple TV+ with 180,000 homes tuning in, by its fifth episode it had dropped by 78% to only 40,000.

This is far fewer viewers than Stewart's peers on cable are receiving. The Wrap also notes that Late Week Tonight with John Oliver drew in over 800,000 homes the same week The Problem with Jon Stewart episode 5 released. On top of this, despite being more in demand than James Corden and Ellen DeGeneres' shows, Stewart's series is the 8th most in-demand talk show in the country, trailing behind big names such as Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Noah.
