The Prince of Persia Remake is Swapping Developers
In 2020, Ubisoft officially announced Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake with plans to release the game in early 2021. However, fans weren't impressed with the reveal trailer, and many criticized the game for its art style and graphics. Ubisoft wound up delaying Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake indefinitely. It's now the middle of 2022 and the game still doesn't have a release date, but it does have a new studio working on it.
Previously, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was being developed by Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune, but now it's being developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Ubisoft Montreal, for the uninitiated, is one of Ubisoft's premiere studios, leading development on blockbuster games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and the original Prince of Persia trilogy. In the announcement, it was explained that Ubisoft Montreal will be «building upon» the work done by Mumbai and Pune.
Ubisoft Has Bad News for Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake Fans
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake swapping developers can be seen as a sign that the game's development has been troubled behind the scenes. This was already fairly obvious given the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake's release date delays, but now it's more apparent than ever before.
Hopefully Ubisoft Montreal can get the project back on track. Ubisoft Montreal has a proven track record of developing and shipping games in a timely manner, so one has to imagine that it leading the charge on The Sands of Time Remake is going to be a big help.
