The Day Before has been called the top wishlisted game on Steam. That’s because it is. The game stands at the peak of Steam’s Top Wishlists page, and developer Fntastic reports that millions have added it to their personal lists. There are certainly a lot of people waiting to play it. Sadly, they’re going to have to wait a bit longer. Speaking exclusively to IGN, Fntastic announced that The Day Before launch has been delayed almost a year while the company switches the game to Unreal Engine 5.
The game was originally scheduled to release for PC on June 21. With Fntastic now shifting it to Epic’s new tech, The Day Before is delayed until March 1, 2023. It’s a long time to wait, but seeing what the fifth Unreal Engine is capable of, it may be worth the extra time. Still, the developer did cut the announcement close. In the announcement, the developer mentions the delay is due to feeling the responsibility of having to impress millions of interested players. The game was shaping up graphically well before, but the switch should still be significant.
“Feeling and understanding the great responsibility that we face, with enormous gratitude in our hearts, we’re pleased to announce that The Day Before is switching to Unreal Engine 5 technology,” the team told IGN. “The transition to a more advanced and adapted open worlds engine, will make the gameplay of The Day Before even more fantastic.”
Of course this means we’re getting prettier Humvees.
For those who don’t know what the fuss is about, The Day Before is like a mashup of DayZ and The Division. The MMO survival game invites you and some friends to get together, kill some zombies, scour for resources, and seek out a colony before the infected or enemy players find you.
