An incredible new Unreal Engine 5 tech demo is all the more impressive because it’s the work of just a single developer.
As amazing as the PlayStation 5 Unreal Engine 5 demo from 2020 seemed it was obvious that no game would ever look like that any time soon, because that’s what always happens with tech demos.
With no artificial intelligence or gameplay to take up processing power, everything is put into the graphics and nothing else, which is impossible for an actual game.

According to him the lighting is courtesy of Unreal’s Lumen technology but he hasn’t used the Nanite geometry from the official demo.
He’s using VR controls to move around the environment but there don’t seem to be any plans to turn it into an actual game, even though it totally looks like a survival horror as soon as he switches to a night-time setting.
So far, no video game has used Unreal Engine 5, with the closest so far being The Matrix Awakens tech demo.
The next Tomb RaiderandThe Witcher games are using it though, and it should become commonplace thereafter, even if it never looks
