NBC has given a series order to the Quantum Leap reboot. Set in the present day, three decades after Scott Bakula’s Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished, a new team has been gathered to restart the project in order to better understand the mysteries of the machine and the man who created it. The reboot will star Raymond Lee in the lead role, along with Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee.
Typically the first network to reveal its fall lineup, NBC has now given a series order to theQuantum Leap reboot, as reported by Deadline. The project will be written and executive produced by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, the duo who co-created the CBS comedy God Friended Me and the crime drama Alcatraz. Martin Gero will also executive produce, along with original Quantum Leap creator Don Bellisario and narrator Deborah Pratt. The announcement also came with a first-look photo of Lee as the main character. You can check it out below.

For fans hoping that the reboot might help to undo the Quantum Leap cliffhanger, it’s worth noting that Bakula is currently involved with another NBC pilot, titled Unbroken, and is not expected to reprise his role as Sam Beckett at this time. Still, given that the reboot serves as a continuation of the original Quantum Leap series, and specifically mentions Beckett’s mystery in its logline, there is certainly still room for Bakula to return to his beloved role in the future. In any case, Quantum Leap is one of several television reboots expected in the coming months, and the sci-fi series it set to be packed full of both nostalgia and adventure.
