UPDATE May 4 1:50 EST: Screen Rant's sources have confirmed the story details are authentic.
A new casting call for The Nun 2 possibly reveal story details for the horror sequel, including the return of a key character from the first film. The 2018 film served as both a spinoff and prequel to The Conjuring 2 exploring the origins of the demon Valak as it took the form of a terrifying nun that would eventually torment Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Nun revolved around a Roman Catholic priest and nun in her novitiate who investigate reports of a nun suicide in a secluded Romanian monastery in 1952 and learn of the dark truth of the location.
Taissa Farmiga led the cast of The Nun alongside Demián Bichir, Jonas Bloquet, Bonnie Aarons as Valak, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu, Sandra Teles, Manuela Ciucur, Ani Sava, Maria Obretin and Gabrielle Downey. Directed by The Hallow's Corin Hardy on a script from Annabelle scribe Gary Dauberman, the film hit theaters to generally negative reviews from critics for its lackluster story, overreliance on jump scares and inconsistent logic, though the performances and atmosphere did receive some positive reception. Despite the poor reviews, The Nun would prove to be a box office smash, grossing over $365 million against its $22 million budget, becoming the highest-grossing of The Conjuring movies and earning a sequel entering development a year after its release.
