Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Book of Boba Fett episode 5
The Book of Boba Fett has finally revealed key insights into the infamous Night of a Thousand Tears, the great purge of Mandalore first reference in The Mandalorian season 1. Following the turmoil of the Clone Wars and the division of the Mandalorian people prior to the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, the Empire launched a massive counterattack on the warrior planet, decimating the entire world in a near-genocide of the Mandalorian people. The Disney+ series has now revealed new details, by way of flashback sequence, about those involved in the incident, and who was potentially to blame for the tragic event.
The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 is one that's surprisingly centered on The Mandalorian's Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). Armed with his beskar spear and the legendary Darksaber, Djarin delivers a collected bounty before reuniting with the two Mandalorians who remain from the Children of the Watch: the Armorer and Paz Vizsla. While the Armorer reforges Djarin's spear into armor for Grogu at his request, she recounts the Night of a Thousand Tears.

Not only is this the first time in Star Wars where the Purge of Mandalore is actually shown on-screen, but the Armorer also notes the roles Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and Mandalore's former ruler Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) had to play during the tragic event. By the end of the flashback, it's quite clear that Kryze's mission to liberate and redeem Mandalore—explored in The Mandalorian season 2—is no easy task. As such, the need for Din Djarin's Mandalorian to step up with the Darksaber in the future is set up very well
