The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold over 10 million units worldwide within 3 days of release and currently stands as the year’s highest rated game, so to say that it’s been a runaway success for Nintendo would be an understatement. In fact, more sales data has now emerged to further illustrate that point.
As per data released by Gfk, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the highest-selling physical game in Europe across the first half of 2023, placing ahead of Hogwarts Legacy, which launched roughly three months earlier and was, unlike Zelda, a multiplatform release. Meanwhile, FIFA 23 slotted in at No. 3.
The three aforementioned titles were, in fact, were the three highest-selling physical games for the first half of the year in nearly all European markets (but with varying rankings), with the only exceptions being Germany and Switzerland, where Mario Kart 8 Deluxe replaced FIFA 23, and Slovakia, where Zelda’s place was taken by NHL 23.
Tears of the Kingdom was, of course, also the Switch’s highest seller during that period, while Hogwarts Legacy topped the platform-specific charts for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and Xbox One. Meanwhile, Farming Simulator 22 grabbed the pole position in the PC charts.
Recently, Nintendo revealed that Tears of the Kingdom was also the Switch’s most downloaded game in Japan for the first half of 2023. Read more on that through here.
