In the modern-day and age, if you are looking for a good mobile SoC, the simplest suggestion is to go for a phone that has a Qualcomm chipset in it. For years, the company has established itself as one of the best in the business, beating the likes of Samsung when it comes to performance. Today, the company has announced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, and although the naming scheme is somewhat confusing, this is the mid-range chip to beat for the year 2023.
So what exactly does the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 bring to the table? Well, for starters, this is the first 7 series chipset that offers one prime Cortex-X2 core running at 2.91GHz. You also get three Cortex-A710 cores running at 2.49GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores running at 1.8GHz. This new configuration should deliver better performance not just compared to the older chipset but also better performance when compared to the competitors in the same price range. In some ways, you can expect the performance to match the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is a big leap considering how this chipset will cater to more affordable phones.
Moving on, Qualcomm claims that the GPU performance is also going ot be better. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will offer up to 2x the performance increase over its predecessor and 25% better performance in benchmarks, especially when compared to the predecessor. The chipmaker has also made bold claims about sustained performance, claiming that the chip can deliver up to 65% better performance when running a 1080p stress test in GFXBench Manhattan 3.0. All the other gaming-oriented features are still here, including offerings such as variable rate shading, volumetric rendering, AI-based super-resolution, and Adreno Frame Motion Engine.
As expected, the Snapdragon 7+
