The first trailer for Eskil Vogt's second feature, The Innocents, has been released. Vogt is a current Academy Award nominee for Best Original Screenplay for The Worst Person In The World, which he co-wrote with Joachim Trier. The Innocentsfollows four children who become friends during the summer and soon discover hidden powers. As they explore their new abilities, strange occurrences begin to take place. The movie offers a dark, horror-esque take on the superhero origin stories audiences have grown used to.
Now, IFC Midnight has released the atmospheric trailer, which follows the young children meeting each other and becoming friends before discovering their new powers. Ida (Rakel Lenora Fløttum), a 9-year-old, is shown holding a tree branch which young Ben (Sam Ashraf) then snaps in half using only his mind. The adults become increasingly concerned with their children's late-night activities, and more power gauging is shown as Ida drops a rock and Ben flings it at a bike in front of other children. The trailer starts taking a darker turn when Ben says, "I can make people do things," and violent occurrences begin to take place in the cold Oslo setting. The trailer ends with Ida's mom asking her what really happened to which Ida responds, "We were just playing," implying the playtime with their newfound powers had dangerous consequences.
