The Greatest Showman 2 needs to focus on the original film’s best characters. The 2017 musical starring Hugh Jackman was a massive success, grossing $434.9 million on an $84 million budget, making it the third highest-grossing musical in the U.S. The Greatest Showman also garnered a few award nominations at the Golden Globes, the Oscars, and even the Grammys.
The musical followed Jackman’s P.T. Barnum as he kick-started his famed circus. Filled with great songs, entertaining choreography, and a cast including Michelle Williams and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, The Greatest Showman made quite a splash during its theatrical run, perhaps unexpectedly so. The film’s soundtrack also topped music charts worldwide, showcasing how popular and wide a reach it had on audiences. While the musical has not been confirmed to be getting a sequel, The Greatest Showman 2 was rumored to be in development back in 2019, but there has been no news of a sequel in the aftermath of Disney cutting ties with Chernin Entertainment, which produced the film, following the studio’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios). Recently, however, there have been rumblings of a sequel, which Jackman and Williams revealed they would be open to if it happened.

If there is ever to be a sequel to The Greatest Showman, it should focus on Zac Efron’s Phillip Carlyle and Zendaya’s Anne Wheeler. The pair’s love story was a highlight of the original film.
