Warning: SPOILERS for The Gilded Age Episode 6 — «Heads Have Rolled For Less»
Who sent the note to Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) that Bannister (Simon Jones) betrayed her inThe Gilded Age episode 6? In spite of her steadfast beliefs that she will never mingle with the New Money people across the street, George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon), Aunt Agnes did the unthinkable and entered the Russells home to find her English butler Bannister working for her rivals. The mystery person who ratted Bannister out to Mrs. van Rhijn wasn't revealed but there are a couple of prime suspects within the Russells' staff of servants.
Although Agnes van Rhijn forbids contact with the Russells, members of her family and household have repeatedly violated her edict throughout The Gilded Age. Agnes' niece, Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson), befriended the Russells and attended a party Bertha hosted. Agnes' son, Oscar (Blake Ritson), has high hopes that he can marry the Russells' daughter, Gladys (Taissa Farmiga), and he has dined at her palatial Fifth Avenue estate. Further, the servants of both houses know each other, at least on a professional level. In The Gilded Age episode 4, Bannister toured the Russells' home and schooled Bertha's butler, Church (Jack Gilpin), on the proper English way to run a household. The fact that Bannister is an English butler is precisely why Bertha hired him for $100to oversee an important luncheon meant to impress Ward McAllister (Nathan Lane), the society right hand of Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy).
