T-Mobile is having a mid-band revolution. The carrier crushed our Best Mobile Networks results this year thanks to its pervasive mid-band 5G network, which brings speeds regularly over 300Mbps to many of the 30 cities we tested.
T-Mobile was almost always the fastest city in our tests, and often the most reliable. But some places were better, and some worse, than others. We picked out our top five T-Mobile cities from our tests and five places where the carrier is still good, but could use a bit more work. (We also have similar lists for AT&T and Verizon.)
It's important to note that in each of these lists, the cities are in alphabetical order, not a "best to worst" order.
These are the cities where we saw T-Mobile's best performance in testing.
Baltimore is a great example of how T-Mobile's mid-band beats even the faster high-band 5G networks. While AT&T and Verizon have ultra-fast high-band setups around touristy locations like the Inner Harbor and Fell's Point, T-Mobile's pervasive mid-band brings fast speeds to residential areas like Franklin Square, Hampden, and Pimlico.
We were also very surprised at T-Mobile's excellent performance in the big cities in the mountain states—Boise, Denver, and Salt Lake City. T-Mobile's speedy mid-band network absolutely crushed the two other carriers in urban Boise, with consistently higher speeds everywhere across the metro area.
Shockingly to us, Charlotte and Raleigh turned in the highest average speeds on a single carrier of any cities in our test this year, with T-Mobile speeds averaging more than 500Mbps. This just shows the power of T-Mobile's new mid-band 5G network. If you haven't considered T-Mobile in Charlotte and Raleigh, now's the time.
