The Batman is a big hit for Warner Bros. as the film tops streaming charts with higher numbers than other DC titles like The Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman 1984. The Batman opened in theaters on March 4, 2022, and after a $134 million opening weekend and three weeks atop the domestic box office charts, the movie has earned a total of $367 domestically and $754 million worldwide as of this writing. The film finally landed on HBO Max on April 18, 2022.
The Batman was the first major Warner Bros. release in 2022 and one of the first since the end of the studio's experimental and controversial decision to release their entire 2021 slate in theaters and on HBO Max on the same date. The decision likely cut into Warner Bros. box office as only two films from the studio, Dune and Godzilla vs. Kong, managed to gross over $100 million domestically. After lighting up the box office, it was always going to be interesting to see how The Batman performed on streaming compared to the other titles.

The Batman is in high demand, as according to Deadline, the film's first week on HBO Max was bigger than a majority of the films released with a day-and-date strategy last year. The Batman drew in 4.1 million viewers in its first week, beating other DC adaptations like The Suicide Squad (3.5 million), Wonder Woman 1984 (3.2 million), and Zack Snyder's Justice League (2.2 million) which was an HBO Max reclusive. The Batman outperformed The Matrix Resurrections (3.2 million) and Dune (2.3 million) and is currently the second-best for a theatrical movie on HBO Max behind only Mortal Kombat (4.3 million).
