The Bachelorette: Leads Who Went Off Script & Stunned Viewers
There have been many leads of The Bachelorette, and some of them shocked viewers when they threw away the Bachelor Nation playbook and did something truly unexpected. Because it’s a reality tv show, The Bachelorette doesn’t have an actual script, per se, but there are certain protocols that the leads are expected to follow. However, not every Bachelorette is content to toe the party line, and occasionally they’ll throw producers and the audience for a loop by bucking tradition and going off-book.
The upcoming season of The Bachelorette, set to debut in July, has enormous anticipation brewing for it because for the first time ever there will be two leads looking for love. Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia both had an extremely emotional and heartbreaking end to their journeys on Clayton Echard’s season of The Bachelor, and the outpour of support for both of them from viewers prompted ABC to announce a double lead season.

Gabby and Rachel became fan favorites—Gabby for her sense of humor and quirky attitude, and Rachel for her depth and loving nature. Many viewers are hoping that the next season of The Bachelorette will be like none they’ve ever seen before, and have high expectations that Gabby and Rachel will break the mold. However, there have been other leads who have stunned the audience during their season with acts that likely took producers by surprise.
Though it’s fairly common now for Bachelor Nation leads to be open about having sex in the fantasy suites, back when Kaitlyn Bristowe was Bachelorette, it was pretty much taboo. So it was even more shocking at the time when she hooked up with contestant Nick Viall before they even made it to fantasy suites
