More than 4.5 million people left their jobs in November 2021—an all-time high, according to US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) numbers released last month. If you're among this legion of gig seekers, know that Glassdoor recently released its 50 Best Jobs in America report, and the top five careers listed there should be your holy grail.
Glassdoor bases its results on jobs with the highest overall job score. That's calculated across three key factors: the number of current openings, the overall job satisfaction rating according to those who already have the gig, and earning potential. Glassdoor presents its figures on a five-point scale with five being "best" and one being the career equivalent of a urinal cake.
As you might expect given all the woeful employer complaints around technology skill shortages, IT jobs nabbed all but one of the top five positions. The lone non-tech job is at the bottom of the Top 5 list, but it actually has the second-highest salary. However, it's got the disturbingly vague title of strategy manager.
That means despite earning an average salary of over $140,000 a year, you'll probably face rather soft performance metrics—a great way for employers to easily get rid of you if they need to tighten their belts. It'll also have very different descriptions from industry to industry and even across different companies in those verticals. Bottom line: Read that job description carefully.
