Apple TV+ is poised to hit another home run with Black Bird, which premieres its first two episodes on July 8. The limited series is based on the true story of Jimmy Keene (played by Rocketman's Taron Egerton), whose promising future was derailed by a number of bad choices that landed him in prison. But with the help of his police officer father (portrayed by the beloved Ray Liotta in his final role), Jimmy secures a deal for a shorter sentence.
The catch? That shorter sentence requires him to enter a maximum security prison and befriend a suspected serial killer named Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser, Richard Jewell) in order to obtain the confession that will ensure he stays behind bars. With a nearly-perfect score thus far on Rotten Tomatoes, Black Bird is sure to be the next big Apple TV+ show that gets viewers talking. Notably, Egerton not only gives a fantastic and layered performance, but he also took a more hands-on approach as producer due to the strength of the material.
