T-Mobile customers can now link their mobile number to Amazon's Alexa to make and receive hands-free calls from anyone in their contacts list.
To activate the Alexa Skill for iOS and Android, you'll need a T-Mobile phone number, Alexa account, and compatible smart device. Open the Alexa app and navigate to More > Settings > Communication > Accounts > T-Mobile, then follow the on-screen instructions.
To place an outgoing call, say "Alexa, call [insert name here]," or "Alexa, dial [insert phone number here]." When someone calls you, Alexa will announce their name, and give you the option to answer or dismiss, depending on whether you're available (and in the mood) to chat.
Perhaps most notably, a connected mobile number allows users to make emergency calls by asking Alexa to "call 911."
By default, Amazon will connect all Alexa-enabled devices to T-Mobile calling. To remove a device, like the kids' Echo Dot or the Echo Show 15 in the kitchen, disable the feature under "Allow calling on" in the mobile app. Users may also turn off incoming calls and use their smart speakers only for outbound conversations by selecting "OFF" under the specific devices toggle.
Amazon rolled out the same thing for AT&T customers in 2020 and for Verizon in 2021.
T-Mobile's support page(Opens in a new window) says prepaid, business, government, and Sprint accounts are not currently eligible for Alexa calling.
