Sylvester Stallone will no longer be starring in a reboot of .
In May 2023, it was announced that Stallone would reprise his role as Gabe Walker in a reboot of 1993’s Cliffhanger. Stallone, however, has dropped out of the project, which is currently filming.
The Cliffhanger reboot is now being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra instead of Ric Roman Waugh. Collet-Serra’s previous filmography includes 2005’s House of Wax, 2014’s Non-Stop, 2016’s The Shallows, 2021’s Jungle Cruise, and 2022’s Black Adam, among other titles.
The film will star Pierce Brosnan as a “seasoned mountaineer” named Ray Cooper, while Lily James will play his daughter, Naomi. The cast of the movie also includes Nell Tiger Free, Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba, and Bruno Gouery.
“In this reboot of Cliffhanger, seasoned mountaineer Ray Cooper (Pierce Brosnan) and his daughter Sydney run a mountain chalet in the Dolomites,” the official synopsis reads. “During a weekend trip with a billionaire’s son, they are targeted by a gang of kidnappers. Ray’s older daughter Naomi (Lily James), still haunted by a past climbing accident, witnesses the attack and escapes. To save her family, she must confront her fears and fight for survival in the Italian Dolomites.”

The new version of Cliffhanger is based on a story written by Ana Lily Amirpour. Lars Sylvest, Joe Neurauter, Thorsten Schumacher, Neal Moritz, and Toby Jaffe are producing the film, while Amirpour, Collet-Serra, James, Chance Wright, Gianluca Chakra, Hisham Alghanim, Josef Brandmaier, Jeff Most, Katy Most, Matthew Stedman, Philipp Kreuzer, Kwesi Dickson, Jay Taylor, MTG, Rodrigo Tarazona, Robert Daly Jr., David Lipper, Kevan van Thompson, and Gala Gordon all serve as executive producers.
