Resident Evil 5 first launched all the way back in 2009, yet it's getting a new update in 2023, 14 years after it was originally released. Resident Evil 5 has proven to be a more divisive entry in Capcom's long-running horror franchise, though it certainly has its fans. The game retained the basic gameplay style of Resident Evil 4, but added co-op to the mix. It received widespread praise for its gameplay, replay value, and co-op, but did earn some criticism for its more action-oriented approach and the shortcomings of its AI companion in single-player.
Despite the hardcore Resident Evil fans being somewhat split on Resident Evil 5, the game was a knockout success for Capcom, and actually held the record for the publisher's best-selling game for nearly a decade. The new update may make fans who haven't played Resident Evil 5 in years return to it, though it should be noted that the update is specific to the PC version of the game.

Those playing Resident Evil 5 on Steam were treated to a fresh update for the action horror game that removed the Games for Windows Live requirement, added local split-screen co-op, and even fixed some of the lingering bugs. Previously, PC gamers were only ever able to play Resident Evil 5 co-op online. It's unclear if many people will get much mileage out of the sudden addition of split-screen co-op, but it's still nice to see the feature added, even if it's 14 years late to the party.
