It isn't often that Superman undergoes a wardrobe change, but he underwent a major costume shift when his world collided with the Dark Horse Comics superhero, Madman. In The Superman/Madman Hullabaloo!, the titular heroes cross into each other's worlds and partially gain each other's special abilities. However, their super suits are altered significantly, changing up their color schemes and adding new details.
Madman is a creator-owned hero who has had his adventures published by many comic companies, including Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, IDW Publishing, Caliber Comics, and Oni Press, among others. The hero was created by Mike Allred, a comic writer and artist who has worked on both Marvel and DC Comics. He is also known for creating the comic iZombie. In 1997, Dark Horse Comics and DC Comics released the crossover that would give Superman a look that fans wouldn't expect.

The Superman/Madman Hullabaloo! has the creative team of Mike Allred, Laura Allred, and Sean Konot. Within this series, Superman's foe Mr. Mxyzptlk causes trouble for the heroic duo, forcing them to swap dimensions. As a result, the two have their identities merged visually. This makes Superman take on Madman's Frankenstein-style attributes and don a suit that emphasizes white and red. He also gains Madman's blue gloves, though he keeps his cape and red circus-style shorts. Superman's symbol is replaced by one far more similar to Madman's though it adds trim to make it more similar to his own. Madman similarly gets a very new look.
