DC's Superman is widely considered to be the purest example of a superhero in the world of comics, but his father Jor-El might be responsible for Krypton's destruction instead of its near-salvation. Often portrayed as a the sole voice of reason on a dying world, Jor-El often warns others on Krypton about excessive energy usage, mining practices, or avoid some other catastrophe. But in World of Krypton #5, DC proves without a doubt that Jor-El lied about his planet's fate to his own people.
The new World of Krypton series is yet another glimpse into the life of Kryptonians decades before Superman's emergence on Earth as the planet's most popular superhero. The planet thrives and society exists much like our own, albeit with considerably more advanced technology. Yet the planet's core is unstable, and the Kryptonian council has elected Jor-El to find a solution. In past issues, Jor-El has admitted that the damage already caused is irreversible, and energy-intensive shields must be constructed around the core to preserve what little integrity remains. But even if Krypton rallied around the cause, it still wouldn't be enough — and Jor-El knows it.

In World of Krypton #5, Jor-El's wife Lara Lor-Van suspects her husband has kept a vital secret from the council that pertains to the planet's future.
