Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Superman and Lois season 2.
The troubled romance between Jordan Kent and Sarah Cortez in Superman and Lois season 2 took a turn for the worse, reviving a tired trope as Jordan was forced to hide his superpowers from Sarah and end their relationship specifically to keep her safe. This same storyline has played out repeatedly in other Arrowverse series and superhero movies, with the hero's efforts to hide their secret identity from their beloved never making them any safer. What makes this all the sillier in the case of Superman and Lois is that Jordan specifically argued against ignorance being a shield, but ultimately decided to keep lying to Sarah anyway.
The young love between Sarah Cortez (Inde Navarrette) and Jordan Kent (Alexander Garfin) has been a major source of drama in Superman and Lois season 2, with Jordan's secret identity as Superman's son causing him to not be there for Sarah as her parents' marriage fell apart. Sarah finally got tied of Jordan's excuses and seeming unreliability, returning the necklace that he had given her. This left the usually honest Jordan wanting to explain to Sarah that his continual absences were due to his needing to save other people with his powers, but his parents objected to that idea, even as they decided to come clean with Sarah's mother, Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui) regarding Superman's secret identity. This led Lana to cut ties with the Kent family, because she couldn't bare the weight of lying to her family about them and feared Sarah might be killed while associating with Jordan.
