During today’s Nintendo Direct, we got to see a few more details about the upcoming Super Mario RPG remake. Specifically, we got to see a few new features in the game that should mix things up for those who have memorized the original game.
First up, the way Action Commands work are a little differently now. For example, when you time your attacks perfectly with the requisite button press(es), you can hit the entire enemy party at once. Additionally, as you complete Action Commands, you’ll fill a meter in the bottom left corner of the screen. This will let your entire party carry out a special attack when it fills, which changes depending on your party composition. Super Mario RPG is basically Chrono Trigger now, I’m definitely not overselling this.
Additionally, you can now go back and rematch bosses as new postgame content. As you’d expect, these extra battles will tune up the difficulty compared to your original run. Super Mario RPG has a decentr number of bosses, so we’ll have to see how much these add to the game.
Super Mario RPG will release on November 17, 2023.
