Microsoft is expanding the recommendations displayed in the Windows 11 Start menu to include websites.
As PC World reports, a new Windows 11 build (22621.2359) was released to Insiders on the Release Preview Channel last week. One of the key new features sees Microsoft use your browsing history to place websites in the Recommended section of the Start menu.
According to the Windows Insider Program Team blog post, "These websites will be personalized for you and come from your browsing history. This gives you quick access to the websites that are important to you."
Typically, users bookmark the websites they regularly use and view as important within their preferred web browser, but Microsoft thinks such links should also be displayed on the Start Menu. As this is a Release Preview build, there's a high chance the feature will make it into a future update for all Windows 11 users.
Thankfully, if you don't agree that websites should automatically appear on the Start menu, you can turn off the feature. Simply navigate to Settings > Personalization > Start and adjust the recommended content settings. It's also possible to disable the Recommended section altogether if you prefer less clutter.
Not everyone is a fan of the Windows 11 Start menu, but you can change or even replace it if you so wish. However, keep in mind that Microsoft may decide to blame third-party apps if your Start menu stops working. And if you really can't stand to use Windows 11, there's a few hidden tricks available to get more from Windows 10 or the option to switch to Linux.
