Trek to Yomi stunned audiences when it was first revealed by Devolver Digital during last year's E3 conference. The stylish 2D action game features gorgeous monochrome visuals, references and homages to classic samurai films, and follows a young samurai named Hikori as he seeks revenge for a tragedy that befell his village. With the game set to release later this year, the ambitious samurai game has received multiple trailers showing off its cinematic action with the most recent reveal coming during Wednesday's State of Play broadcast.
The newest trailer for Trek to Yomi saw itself sandwiched in the middle of a jam-packed State of Play broadcast that focused on some of the very best of the JRPG genre and revealed plenty of beautiful Japan-inspired games. Between new updates on upcoming games like Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin and the return of a classic RPG franchise in Valkyrie Elysium, the broadcast presented some of the very best Japan has to offer with Trek to Yomi's newest trailer officially introducing the game's story as well as some of its voice cast.
Samurai Game Trek to Yomi Confirmed for Xbox Game Pass
The cinematic trailer gave fans an inside look at Trek to Yomi's story as a lone samurai named Hikori hunts down the warrior known as Kagerou who he blames for the destruction of his village. The trailer weaves in elements of the game's 2D action gameplay with details of the story along with various supernatural elements thrown into the mix as well with rock formations reforming and Hikori fighting off waves of ghostly samurai. At the trailer's conclusion, Trek to Yomi also introduced some of the star-studded cast lending their voices to the game.
